I just thought I'd join the dogpile of bloggers and try to gather some of the disparate threads of my writings, found from the Space Policy Digest BBS and Return to the Moon Board to Space.com Uplink and the Habitable Zone.
My background is business, so it is rather odd that I'm at all even interested in the space field to the degree that I am. I started in finance and banking back in 1990 at Shearson Lehman Brothers in Rochester, NY while pursuing a BA in International Business & Economics at SUNY Brockport. Since then I've worked for Marine Midland Bank, NatWest Bank, Credit Lyonnais, and BNP. I then engaged in a rather silly space adventure that was a lot of fun but didn't really open up any real possibilities (unless I wanted to run Monte Carlo sims on product costing for proposed space missions - yeah right), so I'm back in the financial field here in lovely Dallas, TX.
So that my space background is clear, a brief summary is as follows:
1999:
NYCitywide Model UN: The Outer Space Treaties
(guess who wrote the briefing paper & was the S-G)
UNISPACE III Space Generation Forum delegate
(The theme was "Shaping Humankind's Future in Space...". It's amazing how many young space leaders worldwide came out of that event)
Adult Space Camp
(Right Stuff medal)
2000:
STAIF
(cool, but fusion was still 10 years off...)
International Space University
Master of Space Studies, cum laude
Class of 2001
Internship at Boeing HSF&E (incl. Mars Sample Return RFP)
Paper on commercial approaches to cislunar infrastructure architectures
Volunteer staffer at the inaugural Yuri's Night in L.A.
What a great experience!
2002:
NASA Academy
Program Support/ISU Liaison
(now this is a really great program and some folks at NASA are trying to grow it to other centers, something that I'd encourage)
World Space Congress
Crewed the ISU booth, but did get to see some good stuff.
2003:
Joined NSS of North Texas
Am now vice-president, and co-chair of the 2007 ISDC.
I actually prefer working in space outreach and education from a private, volunteer organization basis. We have a lot of fun doing things like Space Exploration merit badge clinics, Discovery Fest displays, and HOBY presentations. The chapter photo gallery is here
My posts will range from my impressions from doing these outreach events to where I see possibilities in business and commerce in cislunar space.
